History of the REEL company

In 1950 the firm of Reils & Ellrott was founded by Messrs. Ellrott and Reils and entered in the Trade Register of the city of Wuppertal on June 6.

Both founders had their professional origin in the mechanical drive technology sector and started their business with just a lathe set up in a garage.

Tasks and functions were clearly defined from the very beginning. Herr Ellrott was responsible for design and Herr Reils for production. The first products, i.e. flexible couplings and belt pulleys are still part of the current production program.

For the “REEL” twin-cam coupling Herr Ellrott was granted a patent.

In the course of time, the company experienced a very good business development on this basis. An ever growing variety of products was manufactured to meet the requirements of the new clientele. The coupling series were supplemented by bolt couplings, cam couplings and toothed ring couplings.

In 1970, the company moved to the present production facilities in Gewerbeschulstrasse 120 in Wuppertal.

Herr Ellrott who had already reached his 70th year of life sold his company to Herr Reiz who together with new shareholders renamed in conjunction with these innovations the drive technology sector of Reils & Ellrott into “REEL-Antriebstechnik GmbH”.

As of October 30, 1979, the company has now been doing business under that name and has been supplying the market with a great variety of drive components delivered to customers worldwide.

Herr Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Scholke took over the company management in 1987 and sold after 22 years of activity his company shares as of July 1, 2009, to the new managing directors Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Torben Hummert and Jens Woltmann.

In view of the prevailing market situation many changes had to be implemented. The current company goals and objectives are in conformity with technical challenges and requirements.
